Estate and Trust Legislative Affairs
Purpose Statement

The committee:

* Assists the substantive committees (Decedents’ Estates, Digital Assets, Guardianship, Powers of Attorney and Advanced Directives, Trusts) in gathering information related to legislative developments.

* Submits the Section’s germane legislative proposals to the State Bar for permission to present to the State Legislature.

* Appears before the State Bar Legislative Committee to testify about the Section's germane legislative proposals.

* Finds legislators to carry the Section's germane legislative proposals.

* Works with the legislature to facilitate passage of the Section’s germane legislative proposals, including testifying as legislative committee hearings.

* Monitors and reports to the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Council on all legislation relevant to probate, guardianship, powers of attorney and advanced directives, and trust law.

* Provides resource information to the Legislature and other groups on issues concerning probate, guardianship, powers of attorney and advanced directives, and trust law.

* Gives CLE presentations on legislative developments in probate, guardianship, powers of attorney and advanced directives, and trust law.

* Works with the Texas Real Estate Probate Institute to prepare updates on changes in probate law to share with Section members.

* Performs such other tasks as may be assigned to it by the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Council or its Chair.
