Nominations are always being sought for the Distinguished Probate Attorney Lifetime Achievement Award. Although not required, it is suggested that nominations include the following information:

- Curriculum vitae
- Law-related education
- Law-related employment
- Law-related organizations, including offices held
- Professional achievements, awards, and honors
- Other information that is of relevance(e.g., bibliography of papers, articles, CLE presentations, etc.)
The deadline for submitting nominations for the next year's award is April 1 of each year. The award will be presented during the State Bar’s Advanced Estate Planning and Probate Course in June. The honoree each year is selected by a committee consisting of the three most recent Chairs originating from the probate side of the section. Consequently, if the Chair of the section is from the real estate side, then the three most recent past Chairs from the probate side will serve as the committee. If the Chair of the section is from the probate side, then the two past Chairs from the probate side and the current Chair of the section will constitute the committee.
